Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal is a hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.It is referred to as the ‘Princess of Hills’ and is located 2,133 metres above sea level. Kodaikanal is also well known for the Kurinji flowers, which blooms once in 12 years in December, and cover the valley with a blue coloured hue. It’s set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls and grassy hills. The town centers around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest.The climate of Kodaikanal is very pleasant and cool all round the year. Due to the high altitude the hill station enjoys a temperate subtropical climate.
Varathamanathi Dam
Varathamanathi Dam is situated on the road from Palani to Kodaikanal , Palani Circle , Dindigul District , Tamil Nadu . The surplus water of this dam flows northwards in the name of varathar and joins the Shanmuka river
Palani
Arulmigu Palani Andavar Temple
Palani is home to one of the most sacred shrines of the Lord Muruga, as worshiped in the Hindu sect of Kaumaram. The Thandayudhapani Temple dedicated to Lord Murugan “Palani Andavar”, and regarded one of his Arupadai Veedu (Six Battle Camps), is situated here. The temple is situated at the top of a hill known as Sivagiri. One has top climb 670 steps to reach the temple. Alternatively ,there is a Haulage Winch (a small rope train) and a Rope Car to goto the temple on the top of the hill. From the hill top, one can have a beautiful view of entire Palani town and the agricultural places around it.
Aivar Malai
Aivarmalai is 3 kilometers away from Pappampatti on the Palani-Kolumum road. Widely known to the outside world. Similarly the Jains attained enlightenment on this mountain and attained salvation. It is said that during the Dwabhara Yuga, when the Panchapandas lost their country and lived in the forests, they stayed on this hill with Draupadi, hence the name ‘Five Hills’.
Palar Porundalar
Palar Porundalar
A Palar-Porundalar dam is constructed across Palar and Porundalar rivers. The dam is Situated 10 kms away from Palani and more than 17,000 acres get irrigated. The dam is 2450 meter long and 65 foot tall. It is the biggest dam in the District.
Kuthirayar Water Falls
The Kuthiraiyar Dam Falls can be reached by trekking about a kilometre from Kumbai. The locals can help the travellers reach the place, and the waterfall is situated right behind the dam. The dam and the trekking route offer travellers with an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.
